Welcome back AFM blog viewers!
Tim and I have recently entered into the 29th week of pregnancy and are realizing how quickly the time has passed. A couple of weekends ago, while speaking to my mom, I had heard myself say out loud that the baby will be here in 3 months…or less! Holy cats! It was at that moment that I had my first worrisome moment and doubted there would be any way we could be ready for this precious bundle to enter into our lives. Poor Tim has the tough job of trying to calm my doubts while attempting to reassure me that everything will fall into place.
Since becoming pregnant, I think Tim has earned the right to add a few more qualities to his resume:
Tim Herbers: Husband, Soon-To-Be Father, Counselor, Massage Therapist, Hormonal Wife’s Savior.
On another note, I’ve recently had some awakenings as to how big I actually am. Less than a month ago, Tim and I drove to Texas with his family to visit more family; including our beautiful niece who has recently been welcomed into the world. At this point, I was 25 weeks along. We were all out shopping one day and I realized that it was time to cave and purchase some clothes that actually fit (aka: maternity clothes). I took about 7 or 8 pairs of cute non-mom looking pants with me to the dressing room thinking “One of these have to fit. The next size up look like elephant pants!” Fast-forward 20 minutes later, and I was leaving the store with a trendy pair of black cargo maternity pants….elephant sized.
A couple of stores later, I was at the checkout and the lady working the register cheerily said to me, “I’m going to guess that you’re 7 or 8 months along.” With a pleasant smile on my face I corrected her by saying that I was still in my 6th month. “Well,” she said, “I was in my eighth month already when I was as big as you.”
….and people wonder why I avoid shopping at all costs.
You would think with the gradual growth of my belly, I would be used to it by now. I compare the feel of having this bump to that of wearing a new engagement ring. I don’t know about any of you other ladies out there, but shortly after I had gotten engaged, I bumped my ring on everything because I wasn’t used to it. Well, I’ve been bumping my belly on nearly every door and doorframe in our house. Not only that, but I can’t squeeze myself into tight spaces by sucking my belly in anymore. Try as I might, the only thing I try to squeeze into are my favorite pair of pre-pregnancy jeans…and even that’s not pretty.
I must conclude by adding that I really am excited to meet this baby. Although this blog may seem as though I’m unenthusiastic about this process, I’m really enjoying this part of the pregnancy. I’ve been feeling great and have been able to live a somewhat normal life because of it. I know of a few women who felt miserable the entire 40 weeks and weren’t able to enjoy one bit. For that reason, I thank God for my health and the health of our baby.
Until next time!

I hope I'm not the only comment, but I just want to share my fave story (Alissa, I think you already know it!). LOL.
Christmas night, 2009. I fell down a flight of stairs with my then, 14 month old, Isaac. He was fine, just shaken. I thought I was fine until my elbow swelled up the size of a softball! I'm a musician, so I sort of need my elbow in good working shape! Around 11 p.m., we headed to the ER, I feared a broken elbow.
After a consultation with the Dr., he decided it would be best to grab an x-ray. I went through the usual questions, peed in a cup, and waited. *knock knock* The Dr. finally came back. He greeted me with, "Well, it looks like you're going to have a Merry Christmas!" Surprise! Pregnant with baby #2, our now 6-month-old little boy. No x-ray for me, just a sling and some instructions for managing the swelling.
The best part was telling my husband. He was still waiting in the consultation room. It was now around 1 a.m. I walked in, told him, and his response was, "Are you serious? Because that's not funny!" LOL. We were completely surprised at the time, but what a great joy and addition to our family he has been. Merry Christmas to us for sure!
As a mother of 5 kids, you can be sure most of them have been quite an experience.
Our first child was a blessing. The first pregnancy is full of surprises. He was breech. But after some twisting and turning, our little boy was delivered.
Our second child, a girl, must have been pretty normal. I never had an epidural for any of my deliveries. Again, she was a blessing.
Our third and middle child, was a little different. She wanted to make a grand entrance. She was in a hurry to enter this cruel world. The nurse delivered her head, but the doctor made it for the rest of her. Another blessing.
When our fourth little girl came, it was a wonderful day in July. My husband went to my brother's to combine oats. I told him in the morning that today might be the day. A little later I called him and said it was time. He was almost done combining and would be there soon. So I took the other 3 kids to my parents house and went to the hospital. My husband made it for the delivery (just in time).
But oh yes, she is a another blessing.
And finally, our fifth. A boy for his older brother was about to enter this family. Another fine day in July, my husband yet again was combining at my brother's farm. I again reminded him, this might be the day. So later I called him, and said I was going to deliver our baby today. Again he said he was almost done and wanted to drive the combine home. (oh dear). I loaded the kids into the car and headed to my parents. OOps I forgot my make-up. I turn around for home, got my make up, dropped the kids off at my parents and checked myself into the hospital and was ready to deliver. This time, my husband and the doctor both squeezed in the door to watch me deliver my little boy. Another blessing.
We are blessed with 5 wonderful children and would never trade them for anything. We love you kids. xxxxx
